Latta takes the reins at AVC

Last week’s Academy of Veterinary Consultants meeting in Oklahoma City was well-attended by approximately 250 beef cattle veterinarians and veterinary students.

Tom Latta, DVM, Spearman, Texas, became the new 2011-2012 AVC president. Joining Latta on the Executive Board is President-Elect Dave Sjeklocha, DVM, Sublette, Kan.; Vice President Larry Moczygemba, DVM, Beeville, Texas; and Immediate Past President Jerry Stokka, DVM, MS, Cooperstown, N.D.

Board elections

Newly elected AVC Board of Directors members include Craig Payne, DVM, MS, Columbia, Mo. (Midwest States); Kurt Walters, DVM, Buffalo, Wyo. (West States); Barry Stewart, DVM, Hartselle, Ala.; and Guy Loneragan, BVSc, PhD, Lubbock, Texas (Texas).

Awards

Bob Glock, DVM, PhD, Arizona Diagnostic Laboratory, Tucson, Ariz., received the AVC Outstanding Service Award for outstanding contributions to the AVC. The award is sponsored by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health.

Washington State University veterinary student Travis Allen was the AVC Douglas A. Armstrong Memorial Scholarship recipient at the spring meeting. The $2,500 award is sponsored by Bayer Animal Health.

Vote now – Cattle Production Veterinarian Hall of Fame

AVC and AABP members can vote for one dairy and one beef cattle veterinarian who have been nominated for the newly created Cattle Production Veterinarian Hall of Fame. Visit the AVC website or the AABP website for more information on how to vote.

Future meetings

The next meeting of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants will be Aug. 4-6 in Colorado Springs, Colo., followed by the December meeting Dec. 1-3, in Denver. The 2012 spring meeting will take place April 12-14, in Washington, D.C.
