2009 Western Veterinary Conference
I spent nearly a week at the 81st Annual Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas. Over 150 food-animal exclusive and 800 mixed-animal practitioners attended the conference. Having a long association with the conference, I was busy attending sessions and moderating four hours of fantastic dairy sessions by Ron Terra, DVM, MBA, with the College of Veterinary Medicine, Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Pomona, Calif.
Exciting news for the food animal community includes the election of Kansas State’s beef cattle veterinarian Brad White, DVM, MS, to the Western Veterinary Conference Board of Directors. Also of note are the winners of WVC’s Food Animal Incentive Award: Hallie L. Willmore, DVM, Iowa State University; Jessica L. Clark, DVM, University of Idaho; Andrew Fidler, DVM, North Carolina State University; Susan R. Vogel, DVM, University of Montreal; Hilary M. Piper-Youngs, DVM, Michigan State University; and Jason W. Johnson, DVM, Auburn University.
I also want to sincerely thank the Western Veterinary Conference for the Special Recognition Award given to me by the WVC president and board for my years of service to the Conference. Vegas is a great place to go in February!
