Col. Jim Floyd, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACT, North Carolina State University, is currently deployed in Afghanistan with Agriculture Development Teams and is assisting Afghan veterinarians, farmers and the government to implement better animal production systems and improve the sustainability of livestock production as well as strengthen Afghanistan’s infrastructure (Read about it here).

Floyd is a well-known bovine veterinarian and former department head from Auburn and North Carolina State Universities. In June 2010 Floyd was recruited by the Kentucky National Guard to come out of the retired reserve to serve an 11-month mission for Operation Enduring Freedom, and will return to NCSU afterward. In 2008, Floyd also spent six months as a Veterinary Corps Colonel for the Combined Joint Task Force — Horn of Africa in support of veterinary projects in four East African states

Floyd’s latest project is heading up a sheep parasite control project that he says will provide good information for local farmers, but that data collection from Afghan farms is a challenge. His group is also examining the potency and reliability of OTC anthemlmintics.
