Staying steady
Heifer prices for the first week of November were steady to lower compared to October, says Greg Scheer, dairy analyst with Doane Advisory Services in St. Louis. High-end springing heifers topped out at $1,400 in the Wisconsin and Pennsylvania auctions. Heifer calf prices were little changed from the previous month, topping out at $240 in Stratford, Wisconsin.

Prices show slight improvement
Heifer prices improved slightly in early October auctions compared to September prices. Top end springer heifers topped out at $1,700 in New Holland, Pa., compared to the high of $1,575 last month. Heifer calf prices held near the same levels as last month with high-quality, newborn calves topping out at $245 in Stratford, Wis., reports Greg Scheer, dairy analyst with Doane Advisory Services in St. Louis.
