World Dairy Expo 2002 - Pointed in Your Direction" is the theme for this year's World Dairy Expo to be held in Madison, Wis., Oct. 2-6. The event features commercial exhibits, educational seminars, 11 virtual farm tours and show-ring activities.

Be sure to visit the Dairy Herd Management booth in the Exhibition Hall, #2505. Our editors will be there to answer your questions.

Here's a listing of the show's activities and events to help you plan your visit:

Hours for World Dairy Expo are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The virtual farm tours will be presented in the Exhibition Hall Mendota meeting rooms. Each producer will present a half-hour video or pictorial overview of his operation.

All cattle shows are held in the Coliseum, while all educational seminars will be in the Exhibition Hall, 2nd floor.


WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2:
8 a.m. - International Milking Shorthorn Show and Central National Guernsey Show.

11:30 a.m. - Virtual Farm Tour: Fair Oaks Dairy Farms, Fair Oaks, Ind.

1:30 p.m. - Virtual Farm Tour: Haubenschild Farms, Princeton, Minn.

2 p.m. - Central National Jersey Show (heifers, bulls and dry cows).

7 p.m. - International Guernsey Classic Sale.


THURSDAY, OCT. 3:
7:30 a.m. - Central National Ayrshire Show.

8 a.m. - Central National Jersey Show (cows and groups).

9:30 a.m. - Seminar: "The End of the Road or is it a New Beginning - Evaluating Culling Levels," by Hank Spencer, Monsanto Dairy Business.

10 a.m. - Virtual Farm Tour: University of Wisconsin- Madison, Department of Dairy Science, UW-Cooperative Extension and the Babcock Institute.

11 a.m. - Seminar: "Valuing Feed Ingredients on the Basis of Their Nutritional Content," by Normand St-Pierre, Ohio State University, Department of Animal Science.

11:30 a.m. - Virtual Farm Tour: Blue Star Dairy Farm III, DeForest, Wis.

1 p.m. - Grand International Red & White Show.

1 p.m. - Seminar: "Management of Footcare in Dairy Cows," by Jan Shearer, University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine.

1:30 p.m. - Virtual Farm Tour: Heller Farm, Inc., Alma Center, Wis.

2 p.m. - Central National Brown Swiss Show (dry cows, bulls and heifers).

2:30 p.m. - Seminar: "Who is Managing Your Dairy Herd? Defining Roles, Titles & Job Descriptions," by Tom Fuhrmann, Dairy Works.

12 noon - International Holstein Show (heifers).
