Is your animal well-being audit certified?

As animal welfare audits increase in need and number, it’s important to make sure you spend your money wisely and get the best advice possible. That means hiring an audit firm that complies with industry standards so you — and consumers — know that your dairy’s animal well-being meets or exceeds expectations.

To help, the Professional Animal Auditors Certification Organization (PAACO) has created a three person review panel to evaluate dairy animal well-being programs to determine if they are consistent with the principles and guidelines of the National Dairy Animal Well-Being Initiative (NDAWI).

The NDAWI worked with dairy producers and leading welfare experts to establish principles and guidelines to offer uniform guidance for on-farm well-being programs.

The panel will review programs submitted by producer groups, national associations and private companies to determine if the programs are consistent with the principles and guidelines established by the NDAWI.

“As one of PAACO’s objectives is to advance animal well-being, this service arrangement with NDAWI included establishing a panel that has the expertise to determine if on-farm dairy well-being programs are, in fact, consistent with the principles and guidelines,” says Mike Simpson, executive director of PAACO.  That evaluation will provide dairy well-being programs with the credibility of an independent review based on the criteria NDAWI established.
