“Magical” compound may extend the shelf life of milk

It's being called "magical" by some press accounts; a new compound that could potentially extend the shelf life of milk and other food products.

The compound is called bisin and appears to destroy the bacteria that cause meat, dairy products and other foods to spoil.

“This is good news, but too early to tell if it will have an impact on dairy,” says Greg Miller, executive vice president of research, regulatory and scientific affairs at Dairy Management Inc. and the National Dairy Council.

“It is welcomed news that we may have a new natural anti-microbial, but more work will need to be done to demonstrate its application,” he says. “We are still in the early stages of research.”

Doesnt high quality milk already have a longer shelf life? Why do we need additives for what should not be in milk to begin with!

just what we need it to last longer! we have let the processers ruin the best product so why not let them make it last longer so we can have a bigger surplus!!Its time to take back our industry!
