A new technical bulletin that focuses on managing feed inputs to reduce waste and nutrient excretion is available from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The document, “Animal Diets and Feed Management,” presents general definitions and background information about animal nutrition concepts and feed management practices, as well as the impact of diet on manure composition, volume and emissions.

You can use it as a handy reference for looking up the definition of general feed and nutrition terms, such as crude protein, or to find out what feed ingredients are included in a particular class of feed.
