Dairy farms need to hire employees who can provide skills to complete the many tasks associated with the various aspects of the dairy operation. Focusing on these needs, the University of Wisconsin-Extension Dairy Team created six modules (in English and Spanish) to help train and improve the skills of dairy workers.
The modules include: milking skills, reproductive skills, calf-management skills, herdsmanship skills (assisting cows with calving, fresh cow exam), feeding and nutrition, and handling skills (cattle handling, skidsteer safety).
The award-winning series was designed to be easily tailored to fit specific training needs of dairy producers and to be easily replicated by educators/producers, regardless of subject matter expertise or language barrier. Each module contains comprehensive materials to conduct a successful training.
For more information on these modules, contact Zen Miller, University of Wisconsin-Extension at (920) 832-5119 or email: zen.miller@ces.uwex.edu
