According to Bob Milligan, Senior Consultant with Dairy Strategies, LLC and professor emeritus, Cornell University, quality feedback is important.
“The most important component of ‘quality’ is that the feedback is specific,” Milligan says in the October 2012 LearningEdge Monthly newsletter.
Rather than just saying, ‘You are doing a good job,’ try to catch your employees doing something right and compliment them on that.
Here’s an example: “Great job, Jack. I noticed you going out of your way to remove the leaves that had blown into the alleyway. Thank you for following through on our emphasis on attention to detail.”
Not only is this feedback specific, but it also reinforces the performance (i.e., attention to detail) that you desire.
