Visible molds on silages are an indication that mycotoxins may be present.

If you see molds, ask your nutritionist to take a sample of the suspect silage and send it in for analysis, advises Peter Robinson, University of California Cooperative Extension dairy nutrition and management specialist.

For safety reasons, take the sample from the silage that is being added to the mixer, not from the face of the bunker or silage pile.
