Are repeat breeders a problem area on your operation?

Here is some advice from Gary Hennip, Penn State Dairy Extension, to help you improve conception rates of these animals:

1. Identify non-pregnant cows as early as possible. This helps you ramp up efforts to shorten the breeding interval of these cows.

2. If enrolling repeat breeders in a timed A.I. protocol, proper timing and strict adherence to the details of the synchronization protocol being used are very important.

3. When using a resynchronization program, pay particular attention to the interval between first insemination and the resynchronized insemination, the conception rate resulting from the resynchronized insemination, as well as the speed and accuracy of your pregnancy diagnosis method.
