Planning for an automated calf feeder? Calf experts from Land O’Lakes Purina Feed offer these points:

Each automatic feeding station may be expected to feed up to 25 or 30 calves, with a typical arrangement including two stations to accommodate 50 to 60 calves at one time, or 200 to 240 calves per year.

The calf feeder needs to be located near a water supply in a clean, warm area that is easily accessible by farm personnel and has adequate drainage.

Automatic feeders have been successfully installed into both new facilities, as well as retrofit situations, provided that basic needs of the calves are considered in the design of the housing.
