Should I let ensiled feeds in storage longer?

Ensiled whole-plant corn silage or high-moisture corn goes through fermentation while in the silo. After a couple weeks in storage, the ensiled feeds are ready to be fed. However, new research indicates that holding off a little longer may be beneficial to starch digestibility.

According to a University of Wisconsin-Extension field study, the starch in these feeds continued to increase, even after several months in the silo. It could be an opportunity to improve starch digestibility on your farm.
