Tips for automated calf feeder

 Resize text

Planning for an automated calf feeder? Calf experts from Land O’Lakes Purina Feed offer these points:

• Each automatic feeding station may be expected to feed up to 25 or 30 calves, with a typical arrangement including two stations to accommodate 50 to 60 calves at one time, or 200 to 240 calves per year.

• The calf feeder needs to be located near a water supply in a clean, warm area that is easily accessible by farm personnel and has adequate drainage.

• Automatic feeders have been successfully installed into both new facilities, as well as retrofit situations, provided that basic needs of the calves are considered in the design of the housing.
