Shortly after buying a dairy in southern Georgia six years ago, veterinarian and dairy producer Paul Johnson heard about his first neighbor complaint through the grapevine.  He immediately went to see that neighbor. That, he says, was the first step toward building a good relationship with his new neighbors.

As a new member of this community, says Johnson, “I wanted to let people know we planned to be a part of this community and a good neighbor. Now, all of our neighbors know if they are planning an outdoor activity to let us know in advance, and we’ll make sure that the pivot that delivers lagoon water to crops doesn’t run that day.”

In addition, Johnson also supplies neighbors with manure for their gardens and delivers wheels of cheese each Christmas.
