Ever notice how when you put one 4- or 5-foot wide piece of rubber belting down the center of a cow alley that the cows walk single file in the center of the belting? Arizona dairy producer David Feenstra did. So, instead of using wide belting in the cow alleys, he cut it into 2-foot strips placed 2 feet apart. Now when cows walk to and from the parlor, they all get the benefit of the belting, but they walk in three single-file rows instead of just one.
