Animal agriculture and the dairy industry have made a major attitude shift regarding dietary nitrogen and phosphorus use over the last several years.

However, a new Council for Agricultural Science and Technology report, “Animal Diet Modification to Decrease the Potential for Nitrogen and Phosphorus Pollution,” says we need to do more. According to the report, dairy producers still have plenty of opportunities to deal with these issues on a proactive basis.

Producers should continue to focus on these areas, the report argues, because of public concern over the environment and government regulation.
