Check quality of kernel processing

When harvesting corn silage, make sure that the corn kernels are broken up for better digestion. Take a 32-ounce plastic cup and scoop it full of silage. Then, spread the silage out on the ground and count the number of whole or half kernels that you see. If you see two or more in this volume of silage, then it’s time to double-check your kernel processing, say dairy specialists from Pioneer Hi Bred Intl. Ideally, you will catch this as the silage is being harvested. Maybe the chopper operator needs to make some adjustments.
