Before Lynn Neer hauls any animals to or from his contract heifer-raising operation in Belleville, Pa., he cleans and disinfects this trailer. It would hurt his chances of raising healthy heifers if the animals came onto his place under less-than-sanitary conditions. That’s why he insists on doing his own hauling. Some contract haulers do a good job, he says, but others don’t keep their trailers as clean as they should.
