When was the last time you cleaned your cows' waterers?
According to research published in the August 2001 Journal of Dairy Science, 45 percent of 438 water troughs sampled on dairies in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, had not been cleaned in the previous 12 months.
Washington State University researchers isolated Salmonella and E. coli more frequently in these waterers compared to waterers that had been cleaned within the past six months. This serves as yet another reminder to clean your waterers regularly.
