Clear communication needed

Many of the headaches in calf-raising come from a lack of communication between people, points out Jeff Harman, of DBC Agricultural Products in Lancaster County, Pa. Maybe the protocols are not clearly outlined. So, a calf-care manager should be designated and responsible for drawing up a protocol that everyone understands, he says. “In effect, it’s a dictatorship,” he adds. But that way, the line of communication — and responsibility — is clear to everyone.
