Collect water and milk refusals

Resist the urge to dump water or milk refusals on the ground in front of calves, say experts. It can lead to increased fouling of bedding, draw flies in warm weather, and help spread disease. “The pooling of water and feed under buckets can be a real problem,” says Jerry Bertoldo, veterinarian and Cornell University extension dairy specialist. Instead, collect the refusals and dispose of them properly away from calf housing.
