A feed storage, preparation and utensil-cleaning area at or near calf housing can lead to consistent preparation and delivery of liquid and solid feeds and water. Dan McFarland, senior extension educator with Penn State Cooperative Extension, offers these tips for consistency:

  • Provide a sink with hot and cold water for cleaning and feed preparation.
  • Provide a rack for drying containers and utensils.
  • Provide space for dry storage of bagged feeds.
  • Provide adequate lighting for late-night and early-morning care.
  • Drain waste water to an acceptable treatment system.
