If you don’t plan to lay tile at the feed bunk during construction of a new barn, make sure that your builder spends some extra time smoothing out the concrete where the cows eat. Aim for a hard, shiny finish at the feed bunk, says Don Gribble, agricultural engineer with Five-G Consulting, Reno, Texas. The concrete can be rougher in the truck lane, but it should be as smooth as possible at the bunk.
