The National Mastitis Council recommends that you keep these suggestions in mind when storing and refilling bulk supplies of teat sanitation products:
1. Make sure your supplier has a drug establishment number.
2. Use clean, non-reactive containers that are solely for teat dip storage.
3. Don’t add a new batch of disinfectant to the remains of an old batch.
4. Triple-rinse used containers with three doses of potable water and drain thoroughly before refilling.
5. Label on-farm containers, and include manufacturer name, product name and volume, active ingredients, directions, expiration date, and safety information.
6. Update labels at each filling.
7. Use proper hygiene during filling.
8. Store products in a clean, cool and dry area. Protect from freezing.
