How mineral mishaps occur

 Resize text

It's easy to overfeed certain minerals in dairy diets. bill weiss, of the ohio state University, says mineral overload often comes from these six areas:

  • Errors at the feed mill or mixing mistakes at the TMR.
  • Ingredients with high mineral levels (included in the ration because of low cost).
  • Alfalfa and grasses high in potassium.
  • Distillers grains (especially high sulfur).
  • Water.
  • Supplementation beyond the animal's requirement.
