It’s unusual to find cows with a body temperature less than 104.5 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer. So, how do you know if fresh cows have a fever?
Try to get a benchmark, suggests Sheila McGuirk, veterinarian at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine. To do so, temp three to four normal cows in the fresh pen. A fever is anything that registers 1.5 degrees above the average for the group.
