With a war to pay for and rebuilding from two major hurricanes, Johne’s funding this year is definitely a “use it or lose it” proposition, says Mike Collins, Johne’s expert at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Collins is urging all producers who have not yet completed a Johne’s risk assessment to do so. “The more producers we have who complete the assessment, the more progress we can show we have made the next time the program comes up for reauthorization,” he says.

To participate, contact your state veterinarian’s office to request a list of Johne’s-certified veterinarians in your area. In most states, the cost of the assessment is currently paid for by the national Johne’s education program.
