Have you and your veterinarian instituted procedures to assure that the identity of treated animals is carefully maintained on your dairy? That’s the question that Bill Chilton, an FDA inspector based in Syracuse, N.Y., asks producers.

To identify animals properly and prevent drug residue problems, Chilton suggests that you record the following information whenever you treat an animal on your dairy:

  • Drug name.
  • Treatment date.
  • Animal identification.
  • Dosage.
  • Withdrawal time.
  • Route of administration.
