Instead of backtracking to look for a specific hutch, employees at Merrick’s calf Research Farm in Wonewoc, Wis., designed a system to flag hutches. They took a piece of lath, cut it in half and then drilled a hole about 0.5 inches from the end. It is secured to the hutch with a bolt and nut. Now, when an employee needs to return to a hutch, he simply raises the lath.
