Motivation is simply defined as “fire in the belly,” Tom Fuhrmann, of DairyWorks Management Systems in Tempe, Ariz.,  told attendees at the Western Canadian Dairy Seminar this spring. “And you as a manager either douse or ignite this fire,” he explains.

In order to motivate employees, you must create an environment where people work toward a predetermined outcome. In addition, you must be aware of employee attitudes and use common sense. These are your best indicators of when and how to fuel the fire.
