Searching for ration substitutions is a good idea given the current feed price climate, but be careful that you don’t change your ration too often, cautions Cecelia Dorn of TCD Consulting, Inc., Lincoln, Neb. “Cows need consistency,” she says. Often, producers can find cost savings by making sure rations are mixed and delivered properly. “It comes down to the little things,” Dorn says.
