Canadian dairy producers have successfully been using Rumensin for years. And if there is one thing they have learned, it’s that the feed ingredient is not a magic bullet, says Todd Duffield, dairy scientist at the University of Guelph.
“If you have major problems with the transition program, adding Rumensin to the diet won’t fix it. You have to fix the management issues first,” he explains. It’s like any other new product or technology on the market — in order to get the intended results, your management must first be up-to-par.
