On-farm innovation encouraged

Application deadlines are fast approaching for the 2007 farmer/rancher grants offered by the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program of USDA.

SARE grants are offered for innovative farm practices, environmental stewardship and other methods of improving the sustainability of the farming system. The grants usually range from $10,000 to $30,000.

The application deadlines are as follows: Southern region, Nov. 15; North Central region, Dec. 1; Western region, Dec. 6, and Northeast region, Dec. 22.
