If you are going to use an incentive program to reward employees, consider paying it out quarterly instead of monthly, says Don Tyler, employee-management expert, in Clarks Hill, Ind. When you pay incentives monthly, employees start to expect it and that money becomes part of their monthly pickup-truck payment or grocery budget. However, if you pay incentives quarterly, employees will better understand that it is not part of their regular pay, but a bonus for meeting predetermined levels of performance.
