Read vaccine label claims

If you need help deciding which vaccine is right for you, read the label. In particular, look for a statement that explains the level of protection offered by the vaccine.

The USDA can grant one of five levels of protection, as follows:

  • Prevention of infection.
  • Prevention of disease.
  • Aid in disease prevention.
  • Aid in disease control.
  • Other claims.

These statements can be found in different places, such as on the product package or on a package insert. To learn more about what the statements mean, and where to look on the vaccine, go to:
