Weed control in corn crops is essential to produce good quality feed, but it can be expensive.
WeedSOFT, a new computer program that evaluates herbicide decisions can help. On-farm evaluations determined that computer-assisted corn herbicide recommendations were just as effective as traditional grower-selected treatments — and cost less.
In field studies, growers achieved 96 percent or higher weed control with the WeedSOFT recommendations, and saved $6 to$15 per acre on average on herbicide cost. The software sells for $50.
