Now that you’ve taken the time to develop written, standard operating procedures, how do you know they will be followed?

That’s a common question producers ask of Brenda Price, area market manager for Monsanto Dairy Business who works with producers on employee management issues. The key, says Price, is that while developing the SOPs, you also must develop monitoring protocols.

For each SOP, decide how you will measure success. And, be sure that the protocols are agreed upon by employees and managers in advance. That way, everyone knows the performance standards ahead of time and that encourages buy in for the whole program.
