When it comes to using a synch program, don’t settle for anything less than 100-percent compliance, stresses Paul Fricke, reproductive specialist at the University of Wisconsin. While a 95-percent compliance rate may sound pretty good, it results in failure in one out of every four cows.

Here’s why. If you use a presynch/ovsynch program, it requires five shots, explains Fricke. If you have a 95-percent compliance rate for each shot, it leads to a success rate of just 77 percent. (95% x 95% x 95% x 95% x 95% = 77%)

Instead, you need to strive for 100-percent compliance. That can only be achieved when you get the right shot into the right cow on the right day — each and every time.
