At Aurora Dairy Group, “Supreme Cow Care” is the job of each employee.
No matter what his job description — milking team, herd health, outside crew — each employee has the opportunity and responsibility to observe the cows and look for any abnormal behaviors or signs of disease, explains David Sumrall, president and COO of Aurora Dairy Group. These cows are reported to the herdsperson that day, allowing the cows to be examined and treated right away.
“The more eyes we have looking at our cows every day, the easier it is to take supreme care of them,” says Sumrall. When employees take excellent care of the cows, they produce more milk; cull and death rates stay low, and the employees earn bonuses as a well-deserved reward.
