Erin Cook can’t say enough good things about the tunnel-ventilated calf barn that she manages at Aurora Ridge Dairy, Aurora, N.Y.

No matter what it’s like outside, the atmosphere inside the facility is “pretty constant,” Cook says, and it is often “the nicest place to be on the farm.”

Calves suffer very few respiratory problems here, Cook says. Plus, it’s less stressful on people because there’s no need to close up the facility in the middle of the night during a downpour or inclement weather.
