Floors get scrubbed each morning at Van Der Geest Dairy, Merrill, Wis. Not only does this keep the parlor neat, it puts a clean face on the facilities for farm guests.

Visitors can climb the circular staircase shown in the background to a catwalk that spans across the milking center's two double-25 rapid exit parlors. The catwalk also goes over the holding area, to the six-row free-stall barn and offers a view of the operation's manure-handling facilities. It gives guests a safe, birds-eye view of the entire setup without disrupting cow flow, milking or feeding routines.
