Recent research at Washington State University discovered a genetic mutation that affects dairy cow fertility. Scientists found a gene and four regions in the bovine genome that could potentially be associated with increased fertility and have applied for a patent on the finding. The results may one day help producers use genetic markers to more effectively select for fertility in breeding programs.
