At least 24 cows found dead, charges filed

A Wisconsin man has been charged after the discovery of dead cows on his farm.

Sheriff's deputies, investigating reports of a foul odor emanating from a barn, found at least 24 dead cattle inside.

Joseph Brunner, of Shawano County, Wis., was arrested last week following discovery of the animals. On Monday, he was charged with animal neglect. Read more.

Brunner was released on a $10,000 signature bond.

He reportedly told authorities during questioning that the animals had been sick with pneumonia and wasting disease, according to Fox 11 News.

The Wisconsin state veterinarian was asked to assist in the investigation.
