A fire in central Wisconsin killed approximately 80 cows last weekend on a farm in Marathon County. The inferno ignited early Sunday morning near Cassel, Wis., destroying a barn and two sheds.
An official with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department reported 75 to 80 cattle died in the fire.
According to WOAW News 9, up to 25 more cows were able to escape the blaze. However, authorities note that an unknown number of these surviving cows may be euthanized due to injuries related to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
