As we all know the 2014 Farm Bill came to fruition after being signed by President Obama back on February 7. Today Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced continued progress in the first 90 days of the bill’s life.

"I am pleased to report that our department continues to make tremendous progress getting new initiatives off the ground and making important reforms to existing programs." Vilsack said.

During the bill’s infancy there have been many steps forward, including establishing conservation programs, initiation of specialty crop and local food programs and funding for rural development.

Among the initiatives is a risk-management program producers will be asked to enroll in, in the near future.

The USDA will continue to announce future plans and improvements involving research, education and conservation, pertaining to the 2014 Farm Bill.
