CHURUBUSCO, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say more than three dozen cows have died in a fire at a northern New York dairy farm.

Fire officials in Clinton County tell the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that the blaze broke around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at Damour Acres in Churubusco, near the Canadian border 160 miles north of Albany.

Richard Damour, who operates the farm with his wife, says he was inside his home when he spotted flames coming from his cattle barn.

The fire killed 40 cows as crews from several volunteer companies arrived at the scene.

There was no information on a possible cause of the blaze.
