Careful use of natural resources has led to an award for a Marin County, Calif., dairy farmer and his family.

The Robert Giacomini Dairy in Point Reyes accepted the Leopold Conservation Award during the California Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Monterey, Calif.

The dairy farm employs a number of methods to protect grazing land. It also uses a byproduct of manure, methane, to create energy that powers the dairy and its cheese plant.
