California January 4a price a new record

California’s January 2014 Class 4a/4b milk prices were announced Monday, Feb. 3.

The Class 4a butter-powder price rose for the tenth consecutive month, to $22.13/cwt. The January price is up 97¢ from December, $5.05 more than January 2013, and a new record high.

The 2013 4a average was $18.85/cwt., up $3.22 from the 2012 average of $15.63/cwt.

The Class 4b price is up for a sixth consecutive month, to $20.31/cwt. The January price is up $2.28 from December and $4.47 more than January 2013. The Class 4b record high is $21.18/cwt., set in June 2007.

The 2013 4b averaged $16.42/cwt., up 88¢ from the 2012 average of $15.54/cwt.

Federal order January 2014 Class II, III & IV prices will be announced Wednesday, Feb. 5.
